Woodward Signs With Yankees

After several days of rumors, utility infielder Chris Woodward has agreed to terms with the Yankees.  While it seems unlikely he’ll ever play for Trenton, don’t rule it out entirely.  I mean, who could ever forget the Felix Escalona era in 2006?

I had heard of this about two months ago, when they had been talking to Nick Green.I guess the two of them will try and be the utility INF for 2008,if Betemit is truly part of the 1B platoon.

I still would have like to see Cairo back in the utilityman role. The guy did everything you could ask,for coming off the bench!

Cairo did a real nice job for them. Ideally, I think you’d like to see one of the younger guys take on a role like this so they can develop at the big league level, but there’s really nobody who fits that description as of yet.

So for now, the good ol’ veteran stopgap will have to do.

I havent heard or read anything on this being true…..Mike are you able to tell us if it is, and where you heard it from.Seems like he would have a harder shot to make the team, now that Ensberg was signed.Thanks….ERIK

I’d love to lie and tell you I have some highly placed source, but I actually pulled this off the Baseball America transactions page, which can be found in their prospects blog.

It’s hard to say whether the Ensberg signing had any impact on Woodward’s ability to make the team, as he can play in the middle of the infield and Ensberg can only play on the corners.
