Duncan Among First Four Cut – UPDATED

By thunderbaseball

According to Peter Abraham, 2003 first round draft pick and Thunder alum Eric Duncan was among the first four players cut from Major League spring training by the Yankees.

Duncan, Eduardo Nunez, Jesus Montero and Austin Romine were the four players cut by the Yankees yesterday, leaving them with a still-high 65 players in camp.

I’m sure some perceive me as an Eric Duncan basher, but there’s just no way anyone can spin this as a good sign for his future with the club.  He’s still a relatively young guy, but it seems to becoming increasingly more clear that his opportunities at the Major League level with the Yankees are dwindling.

It seems safe to assume that he’ll start the season at Triple-A Scranton.

Updated – In reading Bryan Hoch’s piece at MLB.com, he has a change in the list…so I’m not sure what’s what.  Duncan is still cut, but he has Marcos Vechionacci going down instead of Eduardo Nunez.

I saw his parents at the minor league complex on Monday afternoon.I didnt want to ask any questions about Eric being cut already.Very Nice parents.

I like Eric personally, no doubt. I’ve never met his parents, but I know that Eric was always willing to talk, and never was really going to give you anything controversial or outside of what you’d expect, etc.

As I mentioned, I’m painted as a Duncan hater, and that’s just not the case…
