McCutchen’s Thoughts On A Possible Call-Up

By thunderbaseball

After the game last night, Trenton starter Daniel McCutchen was hesitant to discuss his thoughts on a potential call-up to Triple-A Scranton after word got out that Alan Horne had been injured, instead focusing his attention on the well-being of his friend and former teammate.

“I hope and pray Alan’s all right,” said a soft-spoken McCutchen.

“Alan’s a good buddy of mine, and I just heard about it a little while ago.  He’ll be in my prayers tonight.”

When I rephrased my original question, choosing to ask him about whether he thought he could compete at the Triple-A level based on where he felt like his stuff was after this start, he said:

“Yeah, I definitely do.  I feel like I can compete pretty well here.  I’m ready at some point in the year to get up there.”

    Mike,

You’ve seen all 3. please compare each one to the others: Horne, Kontos, McCutheon and Marquez. Include thoughts on upside and their personalities.

    Thanks!!

    Mike:

Following ebyank’s line of questioning. You are the Thunder manager. Health and rest being equal:
    - Which of those four pitchers would you choose to start game 7 of the championship series?
    - Which of the four would you put in to pitch the ninth inning with a 1 run lead?

I have only spoken to Kontos, but he hasn’t pitched in Trenton yet…

Based on personal preference, I think McCutchen has the best upside, because I know his velocity seems to be creeping up just a tick — although it was a little under what I was told to expect last night — but he’s still a power pitcher.

Personality wise…Horne seems like he’s the most laid back. Marquez, sometimes I feel like I’m wasting his time when I’m asking him questions…I’m sure he’s a good guy, I just never really had a great relationship with him or anything.

For a game 7 start? Right now? Horne. I think he’s the most developed of the four and has what it takes for a situation like that moreso than the others.

Assuming Horne’s spent and I need someone else to pitch the ninth? McCutchen.
