Standing Out To The Skipper

During Trenton’s series with Portland, I asked Thunder manager Tony Franklin if there were any players who were standing out to him, or if there was anyone perhaps performing better than he might have expected.

Here’s what he had to say…

“I think the guys who weren’t highly touted coming into the season have really helped us in one way or another.  I think that Russo’s been a very pleasant surprise.  Malec’s been able to go to third, and to first, and couple of times in the outfield.  He’s played well.  You expect Colin Curtis to come in and hit like he’s hitting because he’s a good hitter, he’s a good player.  You expect AJ to come in and hit and play defense, which he’s done.  Tabby’s got off to a slow start offensively.  I still believe, and we still believe that he’s going to pick it up and finish the season in fine shape.  But the extra guys, the guys who didn’t come in very highly touted…Malec and Russo, and even Corona.  Muich, Cody’s having a pretty good season now, and that’s what everyone expected him to do last year.  But all those guys have started to put things together, and they’ve been very good contributors to our success here.”

    Nice short synopsis from Franklin.

Personally, I am not all that impressed with Ehlers. He had a shot, especially after his fine season 2 years ago. But he took a step back last year, and has not really “overwhelmed” so far this season. I know he has the stats to an extent, but it does not seem like he will get to NY, at least not the way he is performing at the AA level.

Too bad. If he was solid last year, he might have been in AAA this season, and maybe been considered ahead of Eric Duncan and Miranda.

AJACK got a bit of press here in CT.

Tony is a phenomenal quote. I could talk to him all day long.

Ehlers was banged up for a lot of last season…but the time is certainly now for him to make a move.

The wind blows in from the river, which is right behind the right field fence, at Waterfront Park. In terms of weather in a general sense, it’s been warmer this year than it was last year. But nothing that I think would have any statistical effect.
