Final Score: 1-0, Thunder.

Post-Game Notes: A complete game, four hit shutout with six K’s for Alfredo Aceves.  Wow.  It’s a shame that he won’t be pitching in Trenton until Connecticut comes into town starting June 10th.

If you check out the comments of the Chase Wright post, you’ll see that it’s a shoulder-related issue for Wright, and he’s headed for an MRI this week.

Thunder Thoughts: My “Getting To Know” feature with catcher P.J. Pilittere will go live around 4:30 PM tomorrow.

If you’re playing Rock Band with him, what instruments should you keep him away from?
If you picked up his iPod, what would you find in there?
And what chick flick of sorts will you find in his list of five DVD’s that he can’t do without?

All questions that will be answered tomorrow…

Melancon to “start” on Tuesday

May 25, 2008

Mark Melancon will pick up where Dan McCutchen left off when the Thunder host the Fisher Cats and resume their suspended game from May 18th.

Gates open at 5, and that game will be resumed at 6. Once that game is over, the teams will play their regularly scheduled game, but it will be a seven-inning contest.

Chase To The DL, Rodriguez Activated

May 25, 2008

Chase Wright has been placed on the Trenton Thunder DL with a yet to be disclosed injury. Eladio Rodriguez has been activated to take his place.

No word on how this move will shake up the starting rotation, and really, no word on the specifics of Chase’s injury. He had some discomfort in his arm after his start is what I had heard, but outside of that, that’s pretty much all the information I’ve got.

Scott Aldred On: Eric Wordekemper

May 25, 2008

Eric Wordekemper is last, but not least in our week-long look at the Trenton Thunder bullpen.

Thanks to pitching coach Scott Aldred for giving me a few minutes of his time to help me with this series…

Ashmore: And the last guy I have to ask you about would be Eric Wordekemper…

Aldred: “He’s been doing a fine job when he’s been getting the opportunity. He just hasn’t been able to get as many innings as I’d like for him.”

Ashmore: Kind of like Josh Schmidt, he’s seen a little bit of a reduction in his innings as well, like you said…

Aldred: “He hasn’t pitched as much, but it’s the same thing (as Schmidt). When your starters are going seven and you’re playing nine, you’ve got two left. We’ve got multiple inning guys in our bullpen with Gardner, Claggett and Melancon. Those guys are every two days, so you do the math. It just doesn’t work out.”
