According to a former opponent of Scott Patterson, the former Trenton Thunder reliever has been called up by the New York Yankees.
Patterson had no prior affiliated baseball experience before being signed out of the independent Atlantic League by the Yankees in 2006. He put up outstanding numbers for both the Thunder and Triple-A Scranton, and it would appear he’s the guy headed to the Bronx to fill the long relief role.

Supposedly, Giese is going to replace him or Britton by Tuesday.

I got a text message from someone who played against him in the Atlantic League around 6:45 this morning. Fun way to wake up…but great news, very happy for him. Should have happened April 1st, not June 1st.

Scot should have been there right out of Spring Training. He and Edwar Ramirez sure make the Yankees the “kings’ of scouting the Indy Leagues. Scott had a tough start to his career yesterday, and I would not be surprised if he replaces Britton on the shuttle to Scranton come Tuesday when Giese gets a call. But Scott will be in the Majors again in 2008, if he does not stay up this time.

Meanwhile, Patterson was sent down, as was reported, and Hawkins remains on the roster. That’s just wrong.
