The Yankees have sent infielder Alberto Gonzalez to the Washington Nationals in exchange for Harrisburg reliever Jhonny Nunez.
Nunez had made five appearances for the Senators this year, posting no record with a 1.13 ERA. He last pitched on Tuesday, and the Thunder need someone to start on Saturday, so there’s speculation that he’ll get the nod. So much for all those big names.
As of last night, the Thunder were carrying 23 players, so they would not need to make an immediate roster move to accomodate Nunez.
However, with Kevin Russo very close to returning, Kevin Russo returned today, so at least one move would appear to be imminent.
Pete Abraham also reports that the Yankees have signed Victor Zambrano. Could he and/or Eric Milton appear in a Thunder jersey down the stretch?

Mike – Russo was on the active roster for today’s game outting the Thunder at 24 players. Looks like they will need to make a move for Nunez. Since Horne was sent to Tampa looks like SWB needs a starter too. Think someone will move up?

Didn’t see a release on Russo, but I’ll take your word for it…
I’d have to imagine someone would get the call…if not, they can always just have a bullpen start in Scranton. Hard to say right now…but I’m sure something will go down on Saturday.

With Moeller likely to accept a AAA assignment to SWB – do you see Closser coming down to AA to fill in the void left by Pitterre’s injury??

Trenton has two catchers and P.J.’s pretty close to coming back…I’d doubt it.

Hi Mike
Chad Jennings reported that Phil Hughes is now off the DL and assigned to Charleston. I’d assume he’ll get one more start at single A before moving up. He could be heading to Trenton
Zach McAllister just threw another shutout tonight – I guess there’s a chance he could pitch a game or two at Trenton before he’s shut down for the year

It’s all possible…depends on if there’s a need with someone possibly going to Scranton to start there. We’ll see what happens on Saturday…

Hopefully Victor Zambrano gets no further north than Florida.
