The San Diego Padres have returned Ivan Nova to the Yankees, who have assigned the right-handed pitcher to the Double-A Trenton Thunder.
A big, 22-year old Dominican Republic native, Nova throws a low 90′s fastball, curveball and changeup.
Nova spent last year with Tampa, where he put up less than impressive numbers. Overall, he has a losing record at the minor league level (17-22) with a 4.09 ERA in 68 appearances.
He will likely serve as the Thunder’s fifth starter, although it is entirely possible he could actually return to Tampa to start the season as well.
He was 0-0 in eight spring training games for the Padres, putting up a robust 8.31 ERA in the process.

I’m still not certain if the Yankees getting him back is a good thing or a bad thing. I guess it’s not a bad thing, but I don’t know how good it is. I guess you can never have enough arms. I suppose we’ll find out in a couple of years.

He ends up in Tampa. There is no room for him at a higher level, especially if Horne gets to AA soon.
