I caught up with Thunder starting catcher Austin Romine and asked him what he thought of Alfredo Aceves’ perfect, two inning outing tonight.
“Aceves, he has big league stuff, he throws it where he wants it,” Romine said.
“He commands all his pitches. There’s not much to say about him. He’s where he’s at for a reason. It was a privilege to catch him, it was a lot of fun.”
Romine said he had caught him before a few times in spring training, but never in a game.
As for Franklin, it was his first time seeing the Mexican-born starter pitch since he last starred for the Thunder in 2008.
“Two innings is not a lot to gauge where he is,” Franklin said.
“I don’t know where he was before tonight. This is my first time seeing him in two years. But it was the same ol’ Aceves to me. He goes out there and gets the job done. The Trenton Thunder are better for it. He looked OK. I hope he’s feeling good and going to be able to get back in the major leagues very soon.”
