Hey, I never had a problem with Cody…but he was the Florida State League MVP in 2006 and spent his 2009 playing in an independent league. There should be no argument that his stock plummeted, just as Gonzalez’s has.

In 2006, he hit .298 with 18 home runs and 106 RBI. In 210 games in the following two seasons, he didn’t combine to hit that amount of home runs or drive in that amount of runs…and those were on championship teams, as you pointed out.

Again, nothing against the guy, but he wasn’t the same after 2006. I can’t remember how many times I’d see him frustrated and talking to himself during BP, so it wasn’t like he didn’t care.

Defensively, if you really wanna get into it, he made 7 errors in 1,176 total chances in 2006. Over the next two years, in 1,551 total chances, he made 16.

The one thing involving Ehlers that still bothers me is his late season release in 2008. For all the BS paper moves the Yankees and everyone else makes, they could have simply DL’d him and kept him around.

…so Ehlers “fizzled out”? How about all those low throws from 3b and ss that he dug out for the 3rd out with a runner rounding 3rd in 2007 and 2008 (both Championship seasons)? Last time I checked, baseball is played defensively and offensively. Good luck to all the Yankee minor leaguers….

I think that’s fair to say. Any third catcher is going to have trouble finding the lineup, though.

I don’t entirely disagree with BTL05…I could see them turning into a Rays sort of team in a few years. They have a TON of young talent to build around.
