Pena, Montero Enjoy Futures Game Experience

Trenton Thunder infielder Ramiro Pena

As I mentioned yesterday, I was able to catch up with Trenton’s own Ramiro Pena as well as Charleston catcher Jesus Montero before the Futures Game at Yankee Stadium.

Here’s what they had to say about their respective experiences — Montero used Scranton pitching coach Rafael Chaves as an interpreter.

RAMIRO PENA

“I’ve just been meeting the players and talking with them about this.  Having fun, you know.”

“It’s a good experience to be here and practice and play a game on this field.  It’s exciting.”

“Different, totally different (from being in the stands here).  The stands, you just watch the game.  But here, you feel the baseball.”

“There’s a lot of good prospects, good players.  It’s good to be here.”

“Yesterday, I just walked around and went to dinner and had fun.  I got to meet a couple players, too.  We didn’t practice.”

JESUS MONTERO

“I’m very happy, very proud to be here as a Yankee in the last year of Yankee Stadium.  (I’m) very happy to be in uniform and get an opportunity to play in the game.”

“(I’ve) never been here before, but (I’m) proud to get to play here.  It’s something (I’ll) never forget.”
