Pilittere Injured In Thunder Win

Trenton Thunder catcher P.J. Pilittere left last night’s game with a possible broken nose after bring struck in the face by a foul ball in the seventh inning.

I was not at the game, but have been told now by several people that he was chasing a pop-up behind the plate, and the ball deflected off the netting and hit him in the face.

The All-Star was sent to a local hospital, but that’s about all I know at this point.

If the Thunder are without the services of Pilittere for any length of time, it could be a huge blow to their playoff run.  While he consistently gets on base, it’s his presence behind the plate that’s proven invaluable, and that’s something the club will certainly need as the postseason slowly draws closer.

Since he is a Catcher and wears a mask, could he be fitted with some kind of small splint and still play? I have seen Basketball players play with broken noses.

Just wondering. Would rather not put the kid in harms way or risk a more serious injury.

It’s only a “possible break” at this point, but I wouldn’t want to risk him taking a foul tip or something, even with the mask on.

Not real sure what the course of action will be, but I’ll have more today…
