No Hafner, No #1 Starter For Aeros Means No Excuses For Thunder

The Akron Beacon Journal is reporting that Travis Hafner, the Cleveland DH who was rehabbing with the Aeros in the Southern Division Series, is scheduled to re-join the Indians today and will not be playing in the Eastern League Championship Series.

Hafner played a large role in Akron beating the Bowie Baysox in four games, hitting a grand slam in Game 3 and a three-run home run in Game 4.

Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, the paper is also reporting that the Aeros’ #1 starter, Scott Lewis, has been summoned to the big leagues and will start for the Indians on Wednesday.

Lewis, who dominated the Thunder in his final regular season Double-A start on August 9th, started Game 1 of the Eastern League Southern Division Series on Wednesday and allowed three runs on a walk and seven hits in a no-decision against the Baysox.

But he was flat-out masterful at Waterfront Park earlier this season, giving up just one unearned run on four hits in seven and two thirds innings in a 3-1 Aeros win.

He was in line to take the ball for Game 1 of the finals on Wednesday.

No word on if/when there will be any corresponding roster moves for Akron, and how it would affect the starting rotation.
