Game 1: Pre-Game Notes (NO Rotation Changes)

5:45 PM — Just spoke to Tony Franklin and Jeremy Bleich.  The Bleich stuff will be first set aside for a Trentonian sidebar for tomorrow…but if not, it’s going on here.  Worst case, I link to it.  But he spoke a lot about how he wants to slow the game down this season.

As for Franklin, he revealed that Edwar Gonzalez has been dealing with minor wrist tendinitis, but also said that he could have likely played with it had roster circumstances been different…either way, it’s pretty clear Edwar is the odd man out for the time being.

“It was very disappointing for Gonzo, and rightfully so,” Franklin said.

“But having sustained a slight injury, it made it easier for us to do.  (It was) nothing to the point where he couldn’t have played.”

Franklin said that this is the lineup he anticipated putting on the field for Opening Day, other than Gorecki.

“Let’s face it, guys like Krum and Adams and Brewer, Romine and Laird, those are guys are going to play, you guys all know that.  It’s their time to play at this level,” he said.

“The core of the club has been Laird, Romine, Krum and Brewer…so I had a pretty good idea of what we were going to do.”

Franklin was also uncertain as to the length of Reid Gorecki’s stay…

4:55 PM — THERE ARE NO ROTATION CHANGES.  Ignore that last post…the game notes were incorrect.  It is still Pope tomorrow, Bleich Saturday, Phelps Sunday and Mitchell Monday.  Confirmed this with Pope and Tommy Phelps.

I will get positions and Erie’s lineup for you shortly.

Also, the starting rotation has some big changes…

Christian Garcia still goes tonight, but Jeremy Bleich now pitches tomorrow.  D.J. Mitchell pitches Saturday, David Phelps goes Sunday and Ryan Pope pitches Monday.  So Pope goes from the #2 starter to the #5.  I’ll have to talk to him or Tommy Phelps about that.

So De La Rosa and Pendleton will start the season in the bullpen? Is that a reasonable assumption?
