Game 79: Post-Game Notes

July 1, 2010

— Sorry for the lack of in-game stuff today, but I had to do a lot of photo work for the Tim Pahuta story that you’ll see in the Democrat next Thursday, so I was pretty busy. Thankfully, you really didn’t miss a whole lot.

— That went about as well as a bullpen start could go.  Cory Arbiso was solid for four innings, and J.B. Cox, Kevin Whelan and Ryan Pope combined to shut Harrisburg down the rest of the way.

“You don’t know how things are going to go when you’re using the bullpen,” said Thunder manager Tony Franklin.

“But (bullpen starts) happen to every club during the course of the year.  You do what you can, and hopefully they pitch well enough to keep you in the bullpen, which they did tonight.  Arbiso was good.  You’re asking him to get (12) outs, and he got those.  Two innings plus from the other guys, it was tremendous.  It was one thing to get you two innings, but two innings with no trouble is tremendous.”

— Grant Duff is experiencing slight discomfort in his elbow, but it appears it’s nothing major and he should be OK.  He is, however, expected to be examined by the end of the week.

— Don’t be surprised if David Adams has played his last game of the season.  Out since mid-May with an ankle sprain, it sounds more and more like he may not return this season.

— D.J. Mitchell appears to be the lead candidate to replace David Phelps in the All-Star Game.  Nothing’s official yet, but according to one player, he’s already been told he’s going.

— It sounds as though a player from the Tampa roster will be coming to Trenton shortly to take David Phelps spot.  The Thunder are currently at 23 players and would not need to make a corresponding move to accomodate someone from High-A or possibly Triple-A, depending on who gets sent here.  The Thunder currently need a starter, but could use an extra outfielder as well.  I have no inside info here, but my money’s on George Kontos getting sent up from Tampa.

Game 79: In-Game Updates

July 1, 2010

Sorry, but I’ve been all over the place today doing stuff for the paper on Pahuta…it’s rare that I’m in that kind of bind, but the local guy takes precedent.

8:15 PM — Anyway, Trenton’s up, 3-1, B4.  An RBI double by Jose Gil and a two-run double by Daniel Brewer have given Trenton the lead.  Pahuta with an RBI single up the right side in the 4th for Harrisburg’s run…but Austin Krum threw out another runner trying to score one at-bat later on an absolute laser.

Game 79: Pre-Game Notes

July 1, 2010

6:25 PM — A few things…spoke to Lance Pendleton and J.B. Cox…I’ll have that soon.  Today’s one of those update when I can kind of days, I’m swamped.  But you’ll have that stuff tonight, I promise.  I’ll have in-game stuff up when I can…

4:55 PM — I played with Pahuta.  True story.  Tim and I both grew up in Three Bridges, and we played on the same Little League team in middle school.  Both went to the same high school, etc.  Interesting…

4:50 PM — David Phelps has been promoted to Triple-A Scranton…nobody has been called up from Tampa in his place.  Cory Arbiso starts in his place against former Nationals starter Ross Detwiler.
