Rye Called Up; Krum To DL

(PR) (TRENTON, NJ) The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees announced today that OF Austin Krum (pictured) has been placed on the seven day disabled list (hamstring), and that they have received OF Jack Rye from High-A Tampa. Additionally, RHP Eric Wordekemper has been transferred back to the Trenton roster from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Krum left Saturday night’s game in the sixth inning with the injury. He is batting .251 with 5 HR and 34 RBI in 78 games for the Thunder this season. Rye, 24, comes up from Tampa, where he was hitting .263 with 3 HR, 26 RBI and 6 SB in 60 games. In three games played for the Thunder in 2009, Rye went 1-for-9 with a double.

Wordekemper started the 2010 season in Trenton, where he went 3-0 with a 2.88 ERA in 23 games before being transferred to Triple-A Scranton on June 15. In eight appearances for Scranton, Wordekemper pitched 8 2/3 scoreless innings with seven strike outs.

The Thunder conclude a four game series against the Harrisburg Senators tonight at 7:05 PM at Waterfront Park. Thunder Power

(PR) Trenton, NJ- With a season-high four home runs the Thunder powered ahead of Harrisburg and held onto a 6-4 win on Saturday night at Waterfront Park. RHP D.J. Mitchell picked up his seventh win of the year as Trenton (50-31) has won three straight over Harrisburg.

With one out in the top of the first inning Brad Coon and Danny Espinosa hit back-to-back doubles off RHP DJ Mitchell to put Harrisburg in front 1-0. Espinosa came around to score on an RBI single from Tim Pahuta, and the Senators came away with a 2-0 lead after one inning.

Trenton responded with a pair of two-run homers in the second and third innings off Harrisburg LHP Aaron Thompson. Jose Gil knocked out a two-run shot in the second, and Austin Romine hit his first homer at Waterfront Park this year in the third inning to push Trenton ahead 4-2.

After leading off the fifth inning with a triple for the Senators, Michael Martinez was driven in on an RBI single to center field by Brad Coon to cut Trenton’s lead to 4-3. A solo shot by Daniel Brewer in the bottom of the sixth inning increased Trenton’s lead 5-3.

Mitchell left the game in the seventh inning after Jonathan Solano scored on a base hit by Ofilio Castro to cut the Thunder lead to one. Mitchell finished with six innings pitched, four runs (three earned) on ten hits. Luis Nunez homered in the eighth inning to push Trenton up 6-4. Tim Norton earned the save with two scoreless innings to finish the game.
