Thunder Take Controversial Game 2 Win, 1-0

Rene Rivera hit a walk-off home run deep to center field off of Trystan Magnuson in the bottom of the 12th inning to end a spectacular game in favor of the Thunder, 1-0.  That’s Rivera’s second home run of the series.

The Fisher Cats appeared to score a run in the top of the 12th…but first base umpire Chris Hamner appeared to blow a call on Darin Mastroianni, who legged out a ground ball that would have driven in a run.  Photographic evidence provided by photographer Kevin Littlefield shows that Mastroianni was in fact safe.

Is that picture you mention posted anywhere online? I would love to see it. It seemed clear to a lot of people in the stands that he was safe as well. Although I am happy Trenton won, it’s unfortunate that the umpires played as much of a role as they did. I also think that the plate umpire gave Pettitte a very large strike zone. It looked to me that there were a lot of called strikes that crossed the plate below the knees. Again, it’s just my opinion, and I wasn’t right behind the plate like the ump was. Finally, Mike thanks again for excellent reporting.

There was a lot to watch at the end of that one…the coach going nuts…Magnuson…the celebration. Interesting stuff.

I have not seen if the photo(s) are anywhere. I would assume so. Maybe the NH Union Leader?

And the Yankees have 10 days to make a move with De La Rosa…
