Silva Added To Thunder Roster

May 13, 2011

(PR) (Trenton, NJ) – The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Carlos Silva has been added to the roster.  The move brings the Thunder roster to its maximum of 24 active players.
Silva was signed by the New York Yankees to a minor league contract on April 10, 2011, after he was released by the Chicago Cubs in March.  Since joining the Yankees organization, the righty from Venezuela has made two starts with the Advanced-A Tampa Yankees, going 0-0 with a 2.57 ERA.
In 21 appearances with the Chicago Cubs in 2010, Silva was 10-6 with a 4.22 ERA before missing most of the final two months of the season due to heart and elbow issues.
The Thunder continue their four-game series with the Binghamton Mets Friday night at 7:05 PM from Waterfront Park.  LHP Kei Igawa (1-1, 2.95) will make his second start for Trenton after starting out the year in the Trenton bullpen.  Igawa will face Binghamton’s RHP Brad Holt (1-1, 2.59).  All of the action can be heard on 91. 3 WTSR or online at
The first 2,000 fans ages six and older to Friday’s game will receive Phil Hughes Bobblehead Dolls thanks to The Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Trenton.  Call 609-394-3300 or log on to for ticket information.

Franklin OK After Health Scare

May 13, 2011

Just spoke to Thunder manager Tony Franklin.

Franklin, as has been reported elsewhere by numerous folks, was taken to the hospital prior to last night’s game. Turns out the 60-year-old baseball veteran experienced chest pains, but he was checked out and given a clean bill of health.

Franklin is resting comfortably at home. He’s going to take a few days off and will likely re-join the team at a point in the very near future, although the exact time has yet to be determined.

But the most important part is that Franklin is OK. I’d need much more space than what I have to even begin to tell you how beloved and respected that man is at the ballpark, and that includes in the press box. Extremely happy and relieved to see it wasn’t anything major, and I very much so look forward to seeing him again soon.
