Mesa Placed On DL; Mack Called Up

(PR) (Portland, ME) – The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, announce that OF Melky Mesa has been placed on the 7-Day Disabled List, retroactive to 5/27/2011.  In a corresponding move, OF DeAngelo Mack has been promoted to Trenton from Advanced-A Tampa.  The transactions keep the Thunder 24-man active roster at its capacity.

The Thunder continue their four-day, five-game Memorial Day weekend series with the Portland Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field Saturday at 1:00 PM for the first game of a doubleheader (two seven inning games). Trenton’s LHP Kei Igawa (2-1, 2.79) will face Portland’s RHP Stephen Fife (5-2, 2.41) in game one. Game two will see the Thunder’s RHP Cory Arbiso (3-1, 4.03) oppose the Sea Dog’s RHP Jeremy Kehrt (0-0, 4.03).

wow! mack was barely on the radar. is this similar to the grote callup last year, i.e. just a warm body to fill the bench, or will he be playing as if an accelerated move up?

I honestly believe number two…usually they have someone skip a level or two if it’s a warm body type move.
