(PR) (Trenton, NJ) – Behind four runs batted in by Yadil Mujica, the Trenton Thunder (39-25) won 7-3 over the Harrisburg Senators (34-28) Tuesday night at Waterfront Park. Jason Place, Addison Maruszak and Corban Joseph also drove in one run each behind Thunder starter Shaeffer Hall, who threw six innings of two-run ball to grab his sixth win. Taking game one of a three game set, the Thunder improve to 25-9 at Waterfront Park in 2011 and stay in first place of the Eastern League’s Eastern Division.
Trenton was down 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning but turned to Yadil Mujica to provide an answer. After singles by DeAngelo Mack and Jose Pirela and a walk from Addison Maruszak, Mujica lined a two-out single into right field to score two and give the Thunder a 2-1 lead. In just one swing of the bat, the Cuban infielder had his first multi-RBI game in his professional career.
In the top of the fourth, the Senators scored just one run to make the score 2-2 despite having the bases loaded and no outs. The Thunder were able to use the momentum gained from that situation and turn it into a five-run bottom of the seventh. Yadil Mujica had a two-run double sandwiched in the middle of RBI-singles from Jason Place, Addison Maruszak and Corban Joseph. In all, Trenton brought ten men to the plate and scored five runs on six hits to take a 7-2 lead.
Thunder starting pitcher Shaeffer Hall settled down to only allow two runs in his six innings. The lefty handed the ball to relievers Naoya Okamoto and Wilkins Arias who combined to only allow an unearned run.
Trenton will continue its three-game series with the Harrisburg Senators Wednesday night at 7:05 when the team sends RHP Dellin Betances (3-1, 1.75) to the Waterfront Park mound.
