The appearance would be the third rehab start that the 25-year-old will make as he continues to make his way back to the big leagues after being diagnosed with a tired arm. It would also be the second he’s made with the Thunder this season, as Hughes pitched 3 1/3 innings in New Britain on Friday.
Hughes, who would face the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at 12:05 PM if all goes according to plan, would likely be on pace to throw 80-85 pitches after throwing 72 on Friday and 61 in his first rehab start with Staten Island.
He would most likely need one more rehab start, possibly in Scranton on July 4th, to get up to 100 pitches before being able to re-join the Yankees.
Meanwhile, check out friend and colleague John Nalbone’s story on former Thunder manager Bill Masse’s thoughts on what Hughes has been through since leaving Trenton after his standout 2006 season.
