5th inning — Jeter walks and comes out of the game for pinch runner Jose Pirela

4th inning — All three plays in the top of the 4th went 6-3…Jeter’s toughest play yet came off the bat of Josh Rodriguez, as he had to spin to make a throw and just get him out by an inch.

3rd Inning — Jeter routinely handles a 6-3 groundout…

2nd Inning — Jeter starts a nice 6-4-3 DP on Tony Sanchez, but lines out on a diving grab by first baseman Matt Curry.

1st Inning — Jeter singles to left field, goes from first to third on a Corban Joseph double, and scores

Game 81: Pre-Game Notes

July 2, 2011

1:10 PM — It’s a 7 o’clock game and I’ve been here since 12:30…hmmm, something must be going on today.

Yes, it’s Derek Jeter’s first of two rehab games, and fans are already outside waiting to get in the ballpark.  The gates open at 4 PM, just in time to get a look at batting practice.

Jeter will likely only play six innings today, and is not expected to speak to the media before the game, although he will after leaving the game.

I will obviously have every angle of the story covered on here, so keep checking back for all the latest…
