The Big Day

4:30 PM — I thought there was absolutely no way I’d be able to get the guys I needed.  Turns out, I got that and much, much more.  Here are the players I spoke with — about 90 percent of them one-on-one — before the game.

NL All-Stars interviewed: Carlos Beltran, Lance Berkman, Jay Bruce, Tyler Clippard, Prince Fielder, Clayton Kershaw, Brian McCann, Andrew McCutchen, Hunter Pence, Brandon Phillips, Rickie Weeks, Ryan Braun, Matt Cain, Jose Reyes.

AL All-Stars interviewed: Jose Bautista, Robinson Cano, Adrian Gonzalez, Gio Gonzalez, Paul Konerko, Dave Robertson, Jordan Walden, Jon Lester.

It was amazing how accessible and approachable nearly all the players were.  To do 22 interviews at a big league All-Star Game?  Never thought that could happen.  I’ll have a ton of stuff for you guys once everything winds down tonight…

12:30 PM — Having fully…ahem, recovered from the All-Star Gala last night, it’s time for the big day.  The 2011 Major League Baseball All-Star Game is today.  And they let me in!  I’ll be on the field and in the clubhouses for the next three hours or so, doing the best I can to get some great stuff for the paper and the blog.

Hoping to have a big piece on what Austin Romine, Robinson Cano, Lance Berkman, David Robertson and Tyler Clippard have done in the paper…as well as a column on just what it’s like to be here for these great events.

I’ll keep you updated with whatever I can get during the day…spoiler alert: It’s going to be hectic.
