(PR) (Bowie, MD) – Appearing on a Major League rehabilitation assignment, Luke Scott collected six RBI’s Thursday night to drive the Bowie Baysox (53-43) past the Trenton Thunder (52-46) 8-6 in Bowie, Maryland.
The Baysox erased three leads held by the Thunder, who have not won a road game since June 26. Rob Lyerly and Austin Romine’s two-RBI performances were not enough as the Baysox won for the fifteenth time in 18 games.
Despite the loss, the Thunder had a productive night at the plate, scoring at least six runs for the third straight night. Romine’s two RBI’s bring the catching prospect’s total to 41 on the season. Thunder first baseman Rob Lyerly drove in his two runs on one play, a two-run double in the top of the third. The Thunder offense was also sparked by Zoilo Almonte’s first career Double A homerun, a solo shot to left field to begin the top of the fourth inning. In the end, the Thunder’s six runs were not enough as the Luke Scott-led Baysox erupted for eight runs in the win. The former Houston Astro and current Baltimore Oriole had an RBI-groundout, a two-run homerun, a two-run double and a solo homerun. Trenton starter Craig Heyer was only able to last five frames and gave up a career high seven runs for the second straight outing.
The Thunder will continue their seven-game road swing to Bowie, Maryland and Akron, Ohio with game two of a four game set with the Baysox on Friday night. The Yankees’ top left-handed pitching prospect, LHP Manny Banuelos (3-4, 3.64), will get the nod for the Thunder, while Bowie will counter with LHP Mike Ballard (5-0, 3.06). The SBLI Pre-Game show with Hank Fuerst begins at 6:50 PM. Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR and trentonthunder.com.
