Banuelos Promoted To Scranton

Trenton Thunder starter Manny Banuelos was promoted to Triple-A Scranton prior to today’s game.  The move was first reported by friend and colleague Josh Norris of The Trentonian.

Banuelos is widely regarded as the Yankees best pitching prospect and second best prospect overall, behind catcher Jesus Montero.  In Baseball America‘s recent midseason Top 50 prospects list, Banuelos was rated as the 13th-best prospect in all of baseball.

The 20-year-old lefty is expected to make his Triple-A debut on Tuesday after having made 20 starts this season for Trenton.  The Eastern League All-Star posted a 4-5 record with a 3.59 ERA, striking out 94 batters in 95 1/3 innings pitched.

Of the available in-house options, Cory Arbiso would be the most likely to start in Banuelos’ place on Tuesday.
