Heyer Hurls A Beauty To Get Thunder Back To .500

(PR) (Erie, PA) – Craig Heyer hurled a season-high eight innings and Jose Gil and Austin Krum both hit solo homeruns to lead the Trenton Thunder (62-62) to a 5-2 victory over the Erie SeaWolves (59-65) on Thursday night at Jerry Uht Park. The win marks the second straight for the Thunder, who win two in-a-row for the first time since July 26-27. Salvaging a split in the four-game series, the Thunder also stop a stretch of five straight series losses. After Erie scored first in the first three games of the four-game set, the Thunder struck first on Thursday evening. Jose Gil homered on the third pitch of the third inning for his first long ball since June 21. Addison Maruszak then tripled off of the wall in right field and was brought home on an RBI-groundout later in the inning by Ray Kruml. Rob Lyerly also added a one-out RBI-single, his second in as many nights, to cap Trenton’s three-run top of the third.

The Thunder never looked back from that three-run third inning and held a lead throughout the game on Thursday night. After Erie cut into the Thunder lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, Trenton scored the game’s final two runs to regain a three-run cushion. Austin Krum contributed both with an RBI-double in the fifth inning and a solo homerun over the right field wall onto Holland Street in the seventh inning.

The five runs scored by the Thunder offense on Thursday night were plenty for the right arm of Craig Heyer, who lasted a season-high eight innings to grab his tenth win of the year. Giving up just two runs on nine hits, Heyer retired the last eleven men that he faced. Kanekoa Texeira retired the SeaWolves in order in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure his first save in a Thunder uniform in 2011.

The Thunder will welcome the Bowie Baysox to Trenton for a three-game series and homestand starting on Friday night at 7:05 PM. Getting the start for the Thunder will be RHP Jeff Marquez (0-0, 0.00), appearing on a Major League rehab assignment. Marquez, who pitched for the Thunder in 2008, will oppose Bowie’s LHP Mike Ballard (7-1, 3.48). Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR and online at trentonthunder.com. The SBLI Pre-Game show with Jay Burnham and Hank Fuerst begins at 6:50 PM from Waterfront Park.

The first 2,000 fans (ages six and older) to Friday’s Faith Night game will receive Derek Jeter Bobbleheads thanks to Arm & Hammer. For ticket information, log on to trentonthunder.com or call the Thunder Ticket Office at 609-394-3300.
