My buddy Donnie Collins is reporting that the Yankees have assigned lefty reliever Raul Valdes to Trenton.
Valdes, who was claimed on waivers by the Yankees on August 16 after being let go by the St. Louis Cardinals, has certainly taken an interesting path to even get to the country, no less the big leagues. He joins Juan Miranda and Amauri Sanit as Cuban-born Thunder players in recent memory.
Valdes has pitched for the Mets and Cardinals in the big leagues, and appeared in the show as recently as a July 19 appearance at CitiField for St. Louis. In 45 MLB appearances, he’s 3-4 with one save and a 4.78 ERA.
Trenton, who has not yet officially acknowledged the move, would not have to make a corresponding move to accommodate the 33-year-old. In three appearances with Scranton, he went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA. In three innings, he allowed no walks and five hits, striking out two.
