Whitley Promoted To Triple-A

Can confirm, via an e-mail from Mark Newman, that reliever Chase Whitley has been called up to Triple-A.

Whitley is just 22 years old, but has progressed through the system quite quickly. I figured he’d be a safe bet to be the first member of the bullpen promoted, but this is much faster than I think anyone anticipated.

He split last season between Tampa and Trenton, and struggled at times with the Thunder. The Eastern League hit .280 off of him, and he posted a 3.38 ERA in 42 2/3 innings of work.

This year, however, two good outings got him promoted. In four innings, he struck out seven and allowed just one walk and two hits.
