April 13, 2012

(PR) Akron, OH) – Akron scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning and held Trenton to only four hits on the night in defeating Thunder 2-1 Friday at Canal Park. Steven Wright (1-1), Toru Murata and Cody Allen combined to hold Trenton to one run for the second straight night.

After four shutout innings from starter Cory Arbiso, Preston Claiborne entered in relief to start the fifth inning with a 1-0 lead. Two batters later Nick Weglarz single to center brought home Diaz with the eventual game-winning run.

Arbiso, starting for the first time in 2012, went four shutout innings and gave up five hits and one walk while striking out three. Claiborne gave up two runs in two innings to take the loss, while Ryan Flannery retired six straight in a two-inning performance.
