(PR) (Trenton, NJ) The Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced today that LHP Josh Romanski has been placed on the DL (retroactive to 4/20) with a blister on his pitching hand.
(Trenton, NJ) – Trenton tied season-high marks with 11 runs and 16 hits as the Thunder defeated the Erie SeaWovles, 11-4, Tuesday night in front of 3,642 fans at Waterfront Park. Trenton, which has now out-scored the SeaWolves 30-10 in four games this season, led 7-0 after three innings and never looked back.
Abraham Almonte, Ronnier Mustelier and Walter Ibarra each had three-hit games for the Thunder, while Mustelier drove in a season-high four runs and Almonte scored three times. Starter Brett Marshall (3-1) pitched 5.2 solid innings to defeat Erie for the second time in eight days.
The Thunder battered Erie start Mark Sorensen (0-1) for five runs in his two innings of work. Mustlelier started the scoring with an RBI double in the first, and was later followed by RBIs from Cody Johnson and Luke Murton. Mustelier then doubled in two runs in the second to make the score 5-0.
Sorensen was relieved by former major-leaguer Zach Miner in the third, and Miner allowed and RBI triple to Ibarra and an RBI single to Almonte to put Trenton ahead 7-0. After Rawley Bishop’s homer against Marshall in the 5th made it 7-1, the Thunder added three more tallies against reliever Patrick Cooper in the bottom of the inning on RBIs from Ibarra, Kevin Mahoney and Mustelier.
Marshall allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out four. Lee Hyde (0.1 IP, 0 R), Ryan Pope (1.0 IP, 0 R), Francisco Rondon (1.0 IP, 1 R) and Michael Dubee (1.0 IP, 1 R) finished the win in relief.
Mahoney, Melky Mesa and Yadil Mujia joined the hit party for Trenton with a pair each. Rob Brantly drove in a pair of runs for Erie.
Andy Pettitte (no record) is slated to pitch for the Thunder in game two of the series Wednesday night at 7:05 pm. He’ll be opposed by SeaWolves’ righty Zack Segovia (0-2) with first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
