Game 74: Pre-Game Notes

6:45 PM — Rare that I actually have time to update this between the clubhouse trip and the first pitch…

Spoke to Jon Meloan, Craig Heyer and Brett Marshall…Tony Franklin too, of course…but only the first three’s quotes are making the paper for the early story.  Said story is about Meloan, and about his big league experience and perspective.

Heyer said he felt good after the sim game, but is still a little out of whack…I’ll have extra quotes in my post-game stuff.  Still hoping for a 7/3 return.

Marshall said he hates skipping starts, but it was something he had to do.  That start skipping stops Wednesday, when he gets back on the bump.

4:05 PM — Lineups…

Thunder lineup: Pirela 2B, Adams DH, Z Almonte RF, Mesa CF, Murton 1B, Sublett LF, Gil C, Maruszak 3B, Mujica SS, Nuno P

Sea Dogs lineup: Bradley, Jr. CF, Hazelbaker LF, Smith 3B, Brentz DH, Butler C, Spring 1B, Gibson SS, Hissey RF, Natoli 2B, Britton P

4:00 PM — Michael Dubee has been released from the Yankees organization to make room for Jon Meloan.  Dubee allowed runs in four of his last six outings and was 0-3 with a 6.30 ERA in June.

3:35 PM — So, I’ve been here since 1.  Watched Craig Heyer’s sim game.  He threw 38 pitches and improved as the session went on…although he did issues four walks in ten at-bats.  Jeff Farnham caught the game, and Heyer faced Shane Brown, Kyle Higashioka and Damon Sublett.

Looks like Jon Meloan is active and Michael Dubee is…missing.
