(PR) (Trenton, NJ) – New Britain scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to come from behind and defeat the Trenton Thunder, 3-2, Wednesday in front of 7,509 fans at Waterfront Park. Chris Colabello’s RBI single against Kelvin Perez in the eighth provided the difference as the Rock Cats improved to 4-1 against the Thunder this season.
Addison Maruszak’s solo home run, his second in as many games and ninth of the season, gave Trenton a 2-1 lead after three innings against New Britain starter Logan Darnell. Zoilo Almonte followed Maruszak and hit what was initially ruled a home run down the right field line, but the call was reversed by the umpires, who changed it to a foul ball. The Thunder would not score again.
Mikey O’Brien held the Rock Cats to only one run in six innings on three hits. But Perez allowed three hits in the seventh including Deibinson Romero’s game-tying RBI single. Then with two on and two out in the eighth, Colabello grounded the winning hit into left field.
Maruszak collected three of the Thunder’s seven hits. Romero homered and drove in a pair for New Britain.
The Thunder and Rock Cats continue the three-game series Thursday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm. Trenton right-hander Dellin Betances (0-0, 0.00) is slated to start against righty B.J. Hermsen (4-4, 3.60). Limited tickets are available by contacting the Thunder box office at 609-394-3300 or online at http://www.trentonthunder.com.
