(PR) TRENTON, NJ – The rain held off just long enough for the Thunder to earn a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels Friday night in an eight-inning rain-shortened game at ARM & HAMMER Park.
3,655 fans were treated to a second consecutive victory for the Thunder to begin the home portion of the schedule. Trailing 3-1 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Jose Pirela singled to begin the inning and Tyler Austin walked with one out to put runners at first and second base.
The next batter was J.R. Murphy who had not notched an RBI base-hit since his first at-bat of the season (24 at-bats), roped a double into the left field corner to score both Pirela and Austin without a throw to the plate to tie the game 3-3. Two batters later, Rob Segedin doubled to the wall in left-center field to score Murphy and give the Thunder their first lead of the game, 4-3. DH Neil Medchill followed with an RBI single of his own to add an insurance run to make it a 5-3 game.
In the top of the eighth inning Josh Romanski (1-0, 9.00), who earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings, allowed a double and single to begin the inning to put Flying Squirrels at first and third with no outs. He induced consecutive pop-outs and an inning-ending groundout to escape without a run scoring.
