Game 9: Pre-Game Notes

4:05 PM — Slade Heathcott, a late scratch from last night’s lineup with a stiff neck, doesn’t seem to think the injury is serious enough to lead to a stay on the DL.

“It’s fine, I guess it’s just the cold weather stiffening it up, so I’m just trying to take precautionary measures so it doesn’t turn into anything bad,” he said.

“(I felt it) in the morning, it just felt stiff.  I came in, and I just wanted to be up front, so I just decided to take a couple days off and see how it felt.  I was just tight and stiff, and I guess there had been a couple guys in the past who’ve had that, so they didn’t want it to turn into anything more.”

So, with Heathcott out, Ramon Flores slides from left field to center field.  Just the way he likes it, he said.

“I like playing center field,” Flores said.  “Last year, I played center field in Tampa…I feel comfortable in center field.  I think I feel more comfortable than center field than left field, because center is easier to play than the corners.”

As I mentioned earlier, Matt Tracy gets a chance at redemption tonight.  According to manager Tony Franklin, Tracy simply couldn’t get on track in New Hampshire.

“He didn’t have a feel for anything,” Franklin said.  “His command; he couldn’t find the strike zone.  His control; he was behind in the count.  He’s much better than that.  It was just one of those deals where he just couldn’t get started.”
