6:05 PM — Casey Stevenson will be playing his eighth professional game at shortstop tonight, which includes the two innings of mop-up defensive duty last night after Walter Ibarra was injured. No worries, he says.
“Growing up and in college, I played some short,” Stevenson said. “It’s not too much (of an adjustment), it’s more my natural position than where I’ve been playing with the Yankees; I’ve been playing a lot of third and first, but in college I played a lot of middle infield. It shouldn’t be too difficult to adjust.”
With Trenton’s BP again getting banged due to what was little more than a brief passing shower, Stevenson wasn’t able to focus on solely taking ground balls at his new spot, but says with the role he was expecting to play on this team, he’s prepared to play anywhere Tony Franklin puts him.
“I’ve been taking a lot of ground balls pretty much everywhere throughout spring training and through the start of the year,” he said. “I try to get work in everywhere, because you never know when somebody’s going to go down or if I’m going to have to come into the game late like I did last night.”
In an unrelated story, it seems like Slade Heathcott will be ready to play as early as tomorrow, according to Franklin. Heathcott ran the bases before the game, and seemed to show no ill effects from his stiff neck.

3:50 PM — (PR) The Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced Tuesday that starting shortstop Walter Ibarra has been placed on the disabled list with an abdominal injury. Outfielder Shane Brown has rejoined the team from the Staten Island roster.
Ibarra started the first 11 games of the season and batted .310 with four RBI. He was removed in the middle of Monday night’s game after suffering the injury. Brown played in two games for the Thunder last week, once as an emergency pitcher and once as a starting DH.
3:10 PM — Not much going on right now…looks like Slade Heathcott is running the bases before BP starts, a likely precursor to an activation from the disabled list.
I’ll have lineups when they’re available.
