(PR) TRENTON, NJ) – Former Trenton Thunder All-Star and current New York Yankees infielder Eduardo Nunez is expected to begin a rehabilitation assignment in Trenton tonight at 7:05pm as the Thunder face Reading (Philadelphia).
Nunez was a 2009 Eastern League All-Star as a member of the Thunder. That season, he batted .322 with 160 hits, 9 HR and 55 RBI in 123 games. He made his Major League debut with New York in 2010 and has a career .261 batting average with 7 HR and 52 RBI in 207 career games (4 seasons).
Nunez has been injured with a strained oblique since May 5 . It has not been determined how long Nunez will play in Trenton.
Nunez will become the fourth Yankee to suit up for Trenton in a rehabilitation assignment this season joining Mark Teixeira (May 29 and 30) and Kevin Youkilis (May 29 and 30) and Michael Pineda (June 25 and 30). He will be the 34th player to rehab with the Thunder since Trenton and New York became affiliated in 2003. He will also be the ninth former Thunder Minor Leaguer to return to Trenton on a Major League rehab assignment.

Tonight’s game also features a great pitching matchup as Philadelphia Phillies number 1 prospect Jesse Biddle faces Trenton’s Mikey O’Brien. Biddle was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the first round (27th overall) of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, Pa.
