Montero’s Coming

Can confirm that the plan is for Jesus Montero to be promoted to Double-A Trenton.  With the team at the maximum of 24 players, apparently the delay in announcing the move is in making the final decision on what the corresponding move would be.

However, I’ve also been told that the plan could change, and that it could be possible for Montero to remain in Tampa.

Seems doubtful, though.  If Montero is, in fact, in Trenton tomorrow, you can rest assured that this will be the place to be for all the info you need to know.

this actually seems worse than their handling of melancon claggett sjackson and pena!

Not sure why you would think it is a panic move. Romine and Montero need to be split at some point to progress as catchers. The Yankees could have moved either IMO. Looks like Montero is the one to come up as his bat has been better to date than Romine’s.

i would think moving a prospect up 2 levels before he is 20 qualifies as a significant departure from the yankees’ often boring policy of slow, methodical advancement – i expected to see jesus in trenton by august 1st, but june 3rd seems quite rushed.

Well, Jesus isn’t your typical boring prospect

He also isn’t the most friendly guy. He’s pretty cocky for a 19 year old. I saw him down in Charleston last year and the way he acted with the fans you would have already thought he made it to the Hall of Fame.

if you read the fan blogs, he’s already a first ballot hall of famer lol.

I saw him in Lakewood for 2 games when Charleston came up last year and he could not have been nicer. He signed for a bunch of people pre-game until he had to warm up the starting pitchers. He also signed for anyone on his way to the bus after the game. He sure seemed like a nice kid to me. I think a lot of people have high expectations of him. A lot to put on a 19 year old.

i have heard that is defense is a real work in progress. has anyone seen him behind the plate?

  11. Mr. Scott Says:

The Lakewood game was after I saw him in Charleston maybe the PR people told him to be friendlier or he didn’t know how where the backdoor was. Because almost everyone I spoke to down there said he was unfriendly all the time. He would tell you he’d be right back to sign a ball and then walk out another door.

  12. Jesus Montero on Track for 2011 | Bronx Baseball Daily Says:

[…] According to Mike Ashmore of the Hunterdon County Democrat, the Yankees have promoted their top prospect from High-A Tampa to Double-A Trenton. This doesn’t mean much for the immediate future, but it is a big deal as the Yankees seemingly had been committed to slowly moving him through their system. Mike, let us Jersey readers know if he’s in the lineup as quick as you can. I’ll head right over if he is.

Mike, which coach covers the catcher’s fielding at Trenton?

  16. Elliot Davis Says:

OK, just got to clear up that myth about Montero being a jerk – he isn’t. He is actually one of my favorite guys on the Tampa Yankees. I have been covering the squad for several months and he has been incredibly helpful and generous with his time. When we need a translator, we always look for Montero because he is always available and willing to help us. Plus, he has a big presence in the clubhouse, making it even easier for us to find the guys we need to interview. Montero has a great personality and a tremendous spirit. His confidence may be seen as cockiness, but it is not because he has ill-motives. He is simply just a happy guy with a great deal of talent and he recognizes that. Simply put though, I am happy when I see Montero. This may sound odd, but he has the kind of personality that puts a smile on everyone’s face when he enters the room with his wide grin and playful attitude.

I think Elliot Davis has a thing for this guy, do I hear wedding bells? Just kidding!!!!

Big thanks to Ron Blomberg last night, what a nice guy. He is first class all the way.

  18. Mr. Scott Says:

I’ll have to head down to Trenton soon and check him out again.

or he was focused for a game?

  20. Tyler Says:

You judge him by his facial expressions? And so what if he’s cocky, that’s even better if he is. Confidence is key.
