Wow…More Roster Abuse: Baker Added, Fortenberry “Sent Packing”

This would appear to be an indication that Jesus Montero may be out for a few days…

(PR) (Portland, ME)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that C Ryan Baker has been transferred from the roster of the Staten Island Yankees (SS) to Trenton. Also, OF Seth Fortenberry has been transferred from Trenton’s roster to the roster of the Staten Island Yankees.

Fortenberry has appeared in 38 games for the Thunder this season, and has a .160 BA with eight RBI. He was transferred to the roster of the Staten Island Yankees on May 23rd and returned to Trenton’s roster on June 1st. The native of Waco, TX was drafted by the Yankees in the 11th round of the 2006 draft out of Baylor University.

Baker has not appeared in a game this season. He split the 2008 season between the GCL Yankees and Tampa (High-A). He appeared in two games for Tampa (2 x 7). He hit .077 in 10 games for GCL Yankees. He was signed as non-drafted free agent on 6/12/08.

Trenton and Portland play the rubber game of their series on Sunday afternoon from Hadlock Field in Portland, ME. RHP Ryan Pope (2-4, 5.16) will start for Trenton against Portland RHP Junichi Tazawa (6-3, 2.79). Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.

Sounds like you are mad that maybe guys u like are being sent down… once the short season begins they will have a roster limit and this will stop in the mean time let the Yankees do what they want within the rules…

    … any updates on Montero?

  2. thunderfangabe Says:

are you thinking mike is mad because of his title? i doubt he is mad. the article itself is just a press release, he didn’t write it. i think the “wow” and “abuse” part is just because they keep doing this stuff. they did it last year too. it’s just interesting to see who goes on and off every few days. if mike didn’t report it, then people would wonder where guys went.

  3. thunderfangabe Says:

and the “sent packing” is probably in quotes in the title because most likely seth didn’t physically go anywhere. just another paper move to make roster space.

Guys I like? Honestly, I don’t even think Fortenberry could pick me out of a lineup.

  5. Me Says:

It’s just funny, because every team does it, and it will have to stop once the short seasons begin…

how about Montero??? Mike isn’t there someone you can call to get an idea how long he’s going to be out.

  6. thunderbaseball Says:

Every team doesn’t do it to this extent…

Montero is day-to-day, as his not being placed on the DL would indicate. If you think anyone tells anyone anything about injuries in this organization, you’re sadly mistaken.

  7. Me Says:

yea thats kind of lame that they do that… it’d be nice to have an idea…

  8. thunderbaseball Says:

I agree. But when the Thunder (and they’re told to do that by the Yankees) send out press releases with such valuable info as “lower-body injury,” you’re honestly lucky to even get that.

  9. John Says:

In comparison – Trenton has made 37 roster moves this year while Binghamton has made 44, Altoona has made 54, Connecticut 98 (yes 98), Portland 28. Looks like all teams play the game, some more than others.

  10. T. Ryans Says:

Don’t forget he’s only a kid, sure he is as big if not bigger than many guys in AA, but he still needs to adjust to a little rougher play.

    …and RELEASE HORNE ALREADY!

  11. Taj Mahal Badalandabad Says:

How soon until Horne is back on the DL?

  12. Mack Says:

Lower-body-injury? I didn’t realize Lou Lamoriello was now GM of the Yankees. šŸ˜‰

  13. David Mac Says:

It’s called the baseball Munchausen Syndrome…

  14. mbn007 Says:

If Montero is day-to day, so Baker is the backup for now, as Montero won’t catch at all until he is 100%. I guess Seth was the sacrifice to add the extra catcher.
