Game 86: Pre-Game Notes

July 5, 2013

5:55 PM — Eduardo Nunez will have four at-bats or play seven innings today, we’ll see which. He told us that he feels like he needs a few more games before he’s ready for the big leagues, but he physically feels good. Tony Franklin told us he expects Nunez to at least be here through tomorrow.

4:10 PM — I’ve got lineups…

Thunder lineup: Nunez SS, Flores DH, Heathcott CF, Austin RF, Clark 1B, Pirela 2B, Stevenson 3B, Grice LF, Arcia C, Greene P

Reading lineup: Mitchell DH, Collier CF, Franco 3B, Murphy 1B, Dugan RF, Cartwright 2B, Suomi C, Hewitt LF, Duran SS, Colvin P

In addition, 1B Kyle Roller has been placed on the disabled list with an ankle sprain. The roster, minus Michael Pineda (still not transferred to Scranton) and Eduardo Nunez, stands at 24 players, which is one short of the league maximum.

Fans Get Fireworks, But Thunder Fizzle Out On The Fourth

(PR) TRENTON, NJ – A two-error play in the 8th inning contributed to a two-run inning in a 5-4 victory for the Reading Fightin Phils over the Thunder.

Trenton overcame a 3-0 deficit to tie the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 7th inning in front of 7,826 fans at ARM & HAMMER Park. The standing-room only crowd was treated to a comeback with Carmen Angelini and Jeff Farnham notching RBI singles to make it 3-3.

With a rooting section of fans from his nearby hometown, Reading starting pitcher Jesse Biddle tossed six innings of one-run ball while striking out nine Thunder batters. He scattered three hits and didn’t allow a run until the 6th inning when Reading was already staked to a 3-0 lead.

Current New York Yankee and former Trenton Thunder infielder Eduardo Nunez made his rehab debut with the Thunder while working his way back from a strained oblique. Nunez was the leadoff hitter and designated hitter in the Thunder lineup. He went 0-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts after playing the previous two nights for Single-A Charleston.

The loss marked the sixth consecutive loss for the Thunder which is the longest losing streak of the season.
